Clutter, Clutter,
Everywhere…
Do you find that you cannot open a closet door without something
falling out on you?
When the doorbell rings, do you run around the house in a panic?
Is your dining table so full, it's been a while since you've dined
on it?
Perhaps, reluctantly, you have answered, "Yes" to one or
more of these questions. If so, the bottom line is… YOU NEED TO GET
ORGANIZED!!
Well, getting organized and the act of removing your clutter is not
as grueling as it sounds. There are really a few small steps to start
you on your way to organizational freedom.
I know, I know you say to yourself…"SOUNDS GOOD, BUT, HOW DO
I START? WHERE DO I BEGIN?" Let's review some of the steps to
take to get you on your way.
- Take the first step...make the commitment.
When you have looked for hours for that same piece of paper you
saw yesterday, but just can't place it, that may be when you decide,
you have had enough. Once that occurs, stay focused and don't dwell
on what has to be done but more so, what wonderful results there
will be.
- Start Small…
Once you decide that take the plunge, where do you begin? Sometimes
an entire room can be too overwhelming. However, if you break the
room into sections and take small areas at a time, before you realize
it, you've completed the entire space.
- Purge…
You must be willing to PURGE. Let it go!! Rule of thumb…if you have
not used, worn or even seen it for 1 year, LET IT GO. I know, I
know, it's easier said than done. However, ask yourself a few questions…
* Is this something that I need?
* Have I worn it or will I wear it again?
* Will I use this in the near future?
Now that you have rethought about that item, you will have no problems
making a decision on keeping or tossing it. I promise you, once
you get in the swing of purging, you will get on the "purging
role" in no time.
- Get Help…
Most likely, this is not an easy process for you. You would probably
rather be at the dentist. However, if you could find a partner to
keep you excited focused and determined, things will go very quickly.
Know what you are trying to achieve, keep that in mind. Have your
goal written and/or clearly thought out. This will make sure you
stay on your path.
Having a clutter-free home, office and life is truly achievable for
everyone. It not only will alleviate the unnecessary things around
you, but will also put you in a peaceful and surprisingly healthy
state of mind.
So, the next time your doorbell rings, you can take a quick scan
of your room, SMILE and happily answer the door.
